ST. THOMAS, ONTARIO (May 21, 2013) Saturday:The East Vs. West heads-up class had 4 qualifying rounds. The intent of this class was to bring out heads-up racers from all over Ontario, to compete to see who would have the Quickest car at St.Thomas Raceway Park on 10.5” tires. Most of Ontario was well represented, but no racers from Windsor made the tow, to prove that they have what it takes to represent their region. Ray Griffin from Corunna, ON. was solidly in first place after round 1 with a time of 5.402 @ 123.33 mph in his absolutely gorgeous 62 Chevy II. OSCA racer Vince Melao from Georgetown, ON. wasn!t content with second place and ran a 5.352 @ 130.08 mph in his 89 Mustang in the 2nd round. In dramatic fashion, Ray took his 1st place qualifying advantage back in the 3rd round running a 5.238 @ 141.04 mph! After 4 rounds of qualifying the results were: 1. Ray Griffin, Counna: 5.238 @ 141.04. 2. Vince Melao, Georgetown: 5.301 @ 130.08. 3. Jeff Vance, Forest: 5.3089 @ 140.18. 4. Ryan Silva, Scarborough: 5.4179 @ 127.87. 5. Nick Kokkas, Barrie 5.666 @ 121.21. Performance Unlimited Pro Comp: After two rounds of qualifying, Drew Buchner from Aylmer, ON was in first place with his 85 Camaro chopping down the tree with a .0090 reaction time! Doug Hoffman was close behind in his 73 Vega with a .0098! Dave Cooper rounded out the top 3 in his 76 Corvette with an .0371. In the finals, Otis Symon would defeat Dave Cooper with a slight starting line advantage running a 5.1400 on a 5.14 dial in his beautiful M&M Dragster! Belmont Automotive Open Comp: After 2 qualifying rounds, first place belonged to Drew Buchner with a RT of .0090. Second place went to Jim Dunton of London,ON with a .0148, and third place went to Randy Nunn with an .0520. The final round of racing would have Rick Tovey in his dad!s super clean 68 Chevelle vs. Jim Dunton in his 62 Chevy II. Jim gave the race away with a red-light start, handing an easy victory to Rick Tovey! Griffin Autotek -Best Package Award went to Jim Dunton on Saturday. WestSide Performance- #1 Qualifier Awards went to Drew Buchner in Open Comp and Pro Comp. We had a rule that you couldn!t double class, but we decided based on car count to eliminate this rule. We didn!t think that anyone would be competitive in both classes, but Drew proved us wrong! We had a 'winner of the losers' prize that had all competitors who did not make the money rounds, names put in a helmet, and were drawn for prizes. Performance Unlimited put up a $75 gift certificate, that went to Heather Ireland. Misner Performance put up a free dyno session that went to Randy Mounce. Sunday:Round one of eliminations for East Vs. West competitors would have Nick Kokkas defeating Vince Melao with a holeshot running 5.791 @ 122 mph against Vince!s pedaling 5.631 @ 129.74. Jeff Vance defeated Ryan Silva with a 5.376 @ 136.38 to Ryan!s 5.553 @ 126.06. Ray Griffin had the bye and ran 5.316 @ 132.76. Round 2 would have Jeff Vance victorious over #1 qualifier Ray Griffin, by virtue of a holeshot, running a 5.378 @ 138.98 mph to Ray!s 5.255 @ 135.15! The final round would be Jeff Vance from Forest, ON vs. Nick Kokkas from Barrie, ON. Nick got away first with a . 0400 reaction time, but was unable to keep up with Jeff, who ran 5.439 @ 136.41 mph to Nick!s 5.682 @ 122.24. Performance Unlimited Pro Comp: Qualifying would again put Drew Buchner in the number one spot with a reaction time of .0030! Bryan Swick of London,ON was in second place with a .0100, and Dave Cooper of Sarnia was again in third place with a . 0151. The final round would pit Daltn Symon in his dad!s M&M Dragster against 2012 track champion Doug Hoffman in his 73 Vega. It was an exciting race but in the end the door car would be victorious over the dragster! Belmont Automotive Open Comp: Number one qualifier would AGAIN be Drew Buchner with an .0211 reaction time. Second place went to Rick Tovey with an .0269, and third place went to Darren Hazeleger from Ingersoll in his 04 Mustang with a .0368. The final round would be Darren Hazeleger vs. Jim Dunton in his second trip to a final round in two days! Darren had the starting line advantage and went on to win the race after Dunton experienced some mechanical trouble during his pass. Congratulations Darren on your first ever win! Griffin Autotek- Best Package Award went to Doug Hoffman. WestSide Performance- #1 Qualifier Awards again went to Drew Buchner! Performance Unlimited- 'Winner of the Losers' went to Dave Cooper.
